![]() ![]() ![]() Through invaluable feedback, comments, and common frustrations shared by countless people, the conception of the WISPsystem® emerged. Eben then spent numerous years devouring the broom industry, which had not been challenged in centuries. Ebens lightbulb moment propelled the start of the home and commercial version of the WISP® brand. Months later, these WISPS® began missing from the course it was discovered they were being taken home for personal use. The WISP® is that solution an etiquette tool that gently sifts the sand past the canopy, restoring the green back to its original condition, leaving it better for the following group(s). Frustrated by sand on the green interfering with his put, Dobson envisioned a tool with an innovative type of bristle that could quickly and thoroughly remove sand. ![]() Never did he think his biggest lesson would involve a simpler, more effective way to clean greens. Similar to those who share a life-long passion for the game of golf, Eben (a competitive scratch golfer) has learned a myriad of lessons from the course. Dobsons life experiences have inadvertently led him to create the WISPsystem®, a revolutionary alternative to the broom and dustpan. He saw a need to pursue something as simple as the broom and make it better. Although others may see the broom and dustpan as mundane, Dobson does not. Like many ambitious businessmen, competitive athletes, and entrepreneurs, Eben Dobson has pushed himself to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary. ![]()

![]() Sold in a pack of 10, this set is a great value, although it’s worth noting that they do not offer any special settings or features, aside from automatically operating from dusk until dawn. ![]() We tested this set in our lab and were surprised by the bright lighting these lights emit, despite their crackled look-our testers could even read under them! We also appreciated the “sparkly effect” on the ground from the crackled glass. The Hampton Bay Solar Warm White Landscape Path Lights allow you to illuminate a longer area such as a walkway or driveway, and since they are solar-powered, you don’t have to worry about cords or electricity. ![]() Type: Spotlight | Dimensions: 5.5 x 4.2 x 12.2 inches︱ Power Source: Solar︱ Brightness: 100 lumens But if you are looking for the convenience of solar power, and durable, bright lights that can withstand the elements, this pick stands out. It’s worth noting that aside from operating from dusk till dawn, they only offer two brightness settings and no other features. Weather-resistant, these lights come with a lifetime warranty, and during testing, we noticed no changes when we poured water on them, froze them, or dropped a golf ball on the solar panel. You can also pivot them up to 120 degrees, so they can shine in the direction you need. During testing, these two spotlights were easy to set up and install-we chose to stake them in the ground, but they are also wall-mountable and include screws. If you are looking for solar powered spotlights to illuminate a specific focal point on your property, we recommend the Vont LED Outdoor Solar Lights. Type: Pathway lights | Dimensions: 1.85 x 1.85 x 12.80 inches︱ Power Source: Solar | Brightness: 2 lumens Like most solar-powered lighting options, their performance can be a bit finicky, especially during stretches of cloudy weather. With a light output of 2 lumens, these lights aren’t all that bright-you can expect subtle illumination rather than intense beams. Be sure to take advantage of the one-year warranty if you encounter any damage or defects. Made of plastic, these lights are weather-resistant to a degree but not as durable as aluminum or stainless steel options. The lights are sold individually, or in packs of six or 12, at a very affordable price point. Since they don’t require wires or electricity, they are an eco-friendly option for landscape lighting. Because they run on a solar-powered rechargeable battery, you place them anywhere that gets direct sunlight. We love that these lights are very easy to install you simply drive the stake into the ground. These budget-friendly path lights from Mainstays are designed to illuminate dark areas along walkways, pathways, and gardens. Type: Spotlight | Dimensions: 1.6 x 2.5 x 9.25 inches︱ Power Source: Corded-electric︱ Brightness: 1,800 lumens (300 lumens per light) Although we found some reports that the lights stopped working after a short period of time, the manufacturer offers an 18-month replacement service. If you need to illuminate a larger area, you can purchase an extension cable and two extra packs of lights. Once these landscape lights are wired, the total length of these landscape lights is 68.9 feet, with 9.84 feet between each light. (A transformer is required to reduce your home’s 120-volt electrical system to the 12 used by low-voltage lights.) Installation is simple and straightforward, and usually only takes a couple of minutes. Out of all the picks in this roundup, this is the only set that includes a transformer, which is a nice convenience. These lights are compatible with 12-volt electrical systems. Due to their durable aluminum construction and IP65 waterproof rating, these lights can withstand extreme weather without rusting or cracking. ![]() The 45-degree beam angle has a head that can be adjusted 270 degrees, making these lights well-suited for illuminating home facades and taller trees. With an average life span of 50,000 hours, they last a lot longer too. Equipped with LED bulbs, these fixtures are much more energy efficient than incandescent options. Our top pick, the Greenclick’s Landscape Lights, comes in a pack of six, with each light producing 300 lumens, an exceptional amount of brightness. A building owner who fails to correct an unsafe façade condition is subject to a $1,000-a-month penalty from DOB. Once the unsafe condition is fixed, the owner’s private inspector will put together a new report and submit it to the DOB. If the inspection report finds unsafe conditions, the owner is required to install a sidewalk shed immediately, and keep it up for as long as the unsafe conditions exist. The façade inspection report must be submitted to the DOB for review. These periodic inspections are conducted by private inspectors hired by the building owners. We’ll get to the church in time, but, first, Rudansky provided the following “primer”:Ī scaffold is the installation that runs up the side of a building and is used as a platform for workers to make repairs on the outside of the building. A sidewalk shed is the installation that sits on the sidewalk with overhead protection, and is used to protect pedestrians from falling debris from a building or construction site. “How can the church on the corner of West 86th and Amsterdam get away with having scaffolding up for over 15 years?”Īctually, it’s 18 years, and it’s not “scaffolding” that has surrounded West Park Presbyterian Church since 2001, but a “sidewalk shed,” explained Andrew Rudansky, Senior Deputy Press Secretary, NYC Department of Buildings (DOB). Why is there so much of it, and why does it stay up for so long? Several readers asked, including Jeffrey Wade, who got specific: Scaffolding! It seems to obscure every other building in the neighborhood. ![]() ![]() ![]() This protest started February 15, 1963, and over the course of the six days, the total number of picketers involved reached 1500, and over 400 individuals were arrested. Carol was on her computer looking over the statistics and interviews she had compiled so far when she heard a knock at her door. Why were the demographics of her city so different from the national norms? Was it really possible this place was just prone to producing under-diagnosed severely mentally ill women? She was extra uneasy because the local facility people were being sent to was a privately owned mental hospital as opposed to a state facility which always raised the risk of profit rather than truth driving actions. Any attempts to appeal the situation to the courts had been unsuccessful, the law made it near impossible to free someone deemed a danger to society and there was no appeals process to get a second opinion.Īll this seemed incredibly suspicious to Carol. Any communication or visitation was out of the question they were told as it would ‘interfere with treatment’. In basically all cases families were told their relative was a long term case and would likely be institutionalized for the foreseeable future, possibly forever. One was told their daughter was a violent paranoid schizophrenic, another was told their daughter was an undiagnosed psychopath with sadistic violent tendencies. When they had called authorities and gotten lawyers they all ran into similar dead ends with various severe diagnosis being given as the justification. The per capita rate of institutionalization was considerably higher than the national average, even more oddly, 20 and 30 something women seemed to be the most common demographic affected as opposed to nationally where men were much more likely to be affected.Ĭarol had interviewed some of the families who were shocked as their relatives had never shown any signs of psychological difficulties. What had piqued Carol’s interest though were the statistics in her local city. Institutionalization was fairly rare and mass violence had dropped greatly. In general nationwide the law was quite popular and seemed to be working out quite well. Mild cases were supposed to be referred on for outpatient care whereas cases of imminent danger to society were to be institutionalized for treatment. Risk came in multiple levels, from mild to imminent danger to society. ![]() If police received reports someone was violent or dangerous, they had the legal authority and obligation to arrest them and hold them in custody until a psychologist could analyze them to determine if they were a risk.
